Our Teaching Artists
A teaching artist is someone who has trained in both an artistic field and an educational field. Combining their knowledge of both, they provide a well-rounded, exciting, and educational environment from which students can learn literacy as well as personal and artistic skills that they carry with them throughout their lifetime.
Sarah Bassinger has worked as an educator since 2008, when her love for arts-integration was sparked. She earned her BA in Theatre Arts from the University of North Texas and began working as a high school Theatre and English teacher. After four years in the classroom, she left to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Edinburgh in Theatre and Performance Studies. Upon returning, she was lucky enough to intern and consequently work in the Alley Theatre Education Department in Houston, TX, where she managed the arts-integration program, Staging STEM and piloted a professional development intensive for classroom teachers.
